How to use the Tip Calculator
Enter the bill, choose or type a tip percentage and say how many people are sharing. Press Calculate to see the tip, the grand total and each person’s share. The preset buttons fill in common percentages and calculate straight away.
If you tick the rounding option, each share is rounded up to the next whole amount, which makes cash payments easier; the tip and total then include the extra.
Examples and uses
A bill of 84.50 with an 18% tip is a tip of 15.21 and a total of 99.71. Split between 4 people, each pays 24.93.
Limitations and good to know
Tipping customs vary by country, and in some places a service charge is already included. Check your receipt first. The calculator applies the tip to the bill amount you enter, so enter the pre-tip amount (decide for yourself whether tax is included).
Frequently asked questions
Is the tip calculated before or after tax?
On whatever amount you enter. Enter the pre-tax subtotal for a pre-tax tip, or the full bill for a tip on the total.
Can I split unevenly?
No. This tool splits evenly between the number of people.
What does rounding up do?
It raises each person’s share to the next whole number, so the total and tip increase slightly.
