How to use the Date Difference Calculator
Pick a start and end date and choose Calculate. If the end date is earlier, the dates are swapped automatically and you are told. By default the end date is not counted, so 1 to 2 January is one day; tick “include the end date” if you want both days counted, as is common for hotel stays or event spans.
The calendar breakdown counts whole years and months first, then leftover days. The weekday count includes Monday to Friday only, with no allowance for public holidays.
Examples and uses
From 1 January 2024 to 1 March 2024 is 60 days (2024 is a leap year, so February has 29 days), which is 8 weeks and 4 days, or 2 months exactly.
Limitations and good to know
Only calendar dates are used, so daylight-saving changes do not affect the result. Public holidays and regional working weeks are not considered, and the “years” figure divides days by 365.2425, an average that includes leap years.
Frequently asked questions
Does it count the start and end day?
By default it counts the days between them. Tick the include option to count both ends.
Why do months and days not match total days exactly?
Months have different lengths, so the calendar breakdown and the raw day count describe the same gap in different ways.
Can it count working days excluding holidays?
It counts Monday to Friday only. Holidays differ by country, so they are not included.
